Took the long way home from my brother’s house and stopped at a greenhouse that would make Denis Villeneuve proud, a long-lost corner store, and a few lit up signs.
Sarnia Trains with Dad
At the end of the summer dad and I headed down to Sarnia for a day of chasing trains. There’s a CSX train that runs into Chemical Valley on weekdays that I can’t see while work is on, so we both set the day aside to pop down to the Imperial City.
We didn’t end up seeing the CSX train but we did catch a few others on the main line and moving cars between refineries. It’s a great landscape for photos and makes for something a bit more interesting than the usual “trains at rural crossings” photos.
Storms and Photo Outing
Seems like every other day a pretty serious thunderstorm sweeps through Stratford. After getting a shot of a shelf cloud roaring towards town (and after drying off), I headed outside of Thedford for an Ausable Camera Club meetup at an old bridge.
After checking out the bridge the club went to the recently renovated Lambton Heritage Museum. I haven’t been back to the museum since I worked there, and the changes they’ve made are universally for the better.
Dad's Beetle
My dad recently got his 1968 Volkswagen Beetle back from the paint shop. It’s in great shape, and looks fantastic now with a fresh coat of paint.
It’s a UK import model, so besides being right-hand drive it has disc brakes and a 1500cc engine; two features that wouldn’t arrive in North American models until later.
Hopefully this summer I’ll get lots of opportunities to photograph this great classic Beetle!
