A coworker told me about a closed prison on the outskirts of Guelph so a friend and I popped over on a dreary day to check it out.
The Ontario Reformatory, later known as the Guelph Correctional Centre, was built in 1910 and expanded several times throughout the years by prisoner labour. The prison was one of the first in the province to set up small industries and jobs for inmates with things like a meat processing plant and a stone quarry. The prison closed in 2002 but is still patrolled by security and used as a filming location for movies and TV shows.
